VoPay, a leading fintech platform, has moved its global headquarters to Qatar. The company aims to expand its reach across the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, and other high-growth regions. VoPay will continue its operations in North America, Europe, and Latin America from its Vancouver office.
This decision aligns with Qatar’s economic diversification and digital growth objectives. The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), where VoPay will be based, is also relocating to Lusail Boulevard in northern Doha as part of this development.
Expansion Plans for Qatar Operations
VoPay CEO Hamed Arbabi said the move reflects Qatar’s long-term economic vision. Arbabi, who has strong ties to the region, added that Qatar’s growing digital ecosystem was key to the company’s decision. VoPay will hire over 400 professionals in Qatar within the next three years. Roles will include positions in engineering, technology, compliance, and data operations.
Building Digital Financial Infrastructure
VoPay is known for creating the digital infrastructure that powers financial services. Instead of offering direct payment services, VoPay provides API-based platforms. These platforms allow banks, fintechs, and government agencies to automate and manage financial functions. This technology helps secure transactions and simplifies payment systems.
Qatar’s Growing Fintech Hub
The move is part of Qatar’s strategy to become a global hub for fintech. Invest Qatar supported VoPay’s expansion, though the company has not disclosed the nature of this support. Sheikh Ali Alwaleed Al-Thani, CEO of Invest Qatar, emphasized that this move shows Qatar’s commitment to a diversified economy. However, Qatar has been more cautious about emerging fintech trends, such as its ban on cryptocurrency trading since 2018.
