The upcoming M.F. Husain Museum in Doha, Qatar, offers a unique fusion of art and architecture, bringing the late Indian modernist’s vision to life. Scheduled to open on November 28, 2025, the museum’s design is based on a 2008 sketch by Husain himself, titled “M.F. Husain Art & Cinema Museum.” This sketch, showcasing a deep-blue structure with abstract forms and a tall, white, minaret-like tower, reflects Husain’s artistic journey and his deep connection to both Indian and Arab cultures.
The museum, named Lawh Wa Qalam: M.F. Husain Museum, will span 3,000 square meters and house over 35 of Husain’s paintings inspired by Arab civilization, commissioned by Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation. Additionally, his final masterpiece, Seeroo fi al ardh (Travel Through the Earth), will be displayed in a dedicated gallery.
This project not only honors Husain’s legacy but also underscores Qatar’s commitment to preserving and celebrating cultural heritage. By transforming Husain’s architectural sketch into a tangible structure, the museum offers visitors an immersive experience into the mind of one of India’s most influential artists.
